A small section of your own hair is sandwiched between two slim wefts of real hair, each with a fine adhesive strip, so the tapes lie completely flat against the scalp. The result is seamless and natural in movement, comfortable enough to forget about, and quick to fit compared with strand-by-strand methods.
As your hair grows the tapes move with it, so every 6–8 weeks we take them out, re-tape them and move them back up to the root. The same Great Lengths hair is reused each time, which makes tapes the lower-commitment, better-value way into extensions — with regular salon support built in.
A full head for dramatic length, a partial set for thickness through the ends, or a few single-sided pieces around the face for a soft, feathered finish — tape extensions can be tailored to exactly what your hair needs. Each tape is about 20% smaller than a standard tape, so placement is more discreet and the blend more natural — even on finer hair.

Your regular maintenance every 6 to 8 weeks. As your hair grows we take the tapes out, re-tape them, move them back up to the root, then shampoo and blow wave so you leave finished. Removal and blow wave are included — nothing to book separately. Not sure how many pieces you have? We count them on the day and confirm your price before we start. Extensions from another salon are welcome too.
Removal only — we take the tapes out and hand your hair straight back, about 15 minutes, no wash or styling: $50 for up to 20 pieces or $90 for up to 40. Most people add a shampoo and blow wave (from $85, priced by your own hair length once the extensions are out) so any leftover adhesive lifts while it’s fresh and you walk out styled. Extra pieces beyond your chosen option are $2 each. Not our extensions? No problem — we remove other salons’ work too.

Not when they’re applied and removed correctly by a trained stylist. Great Lengths tapes are flat and lightweight so the weight is spread evenly, the adhesive is medical-grade and hypoallergenic, and removal uses a specialised solution that dissolves the adhesive with no pulling and no residue.

Tape-ins are the quickest to fit and the easiest to live with: applied in about an hour, moved up every 6–8 weeks, and the same hair is reused. Keratin bond (strand-by-strand) extensions take several hours to apply, cost more up front and stay in for 3–5 months before removal, but they allow higher, tighter updos. Clip-ins are temporary pieces you put in and take out yourself. At Hair Avenue we fit Great Lengths tape-ins — and if another method would suit your hair or lifestyle better, we’ll tell you at your free consultation.
Yes. Our BYO install is $150 plus $10 per piece (from $250 for up to 10 pieces) for the application only. If your hair needs fresh tape tabs it’s $4 a piece, confirmed at your free consultation. We may decline hair that’s too damaged, too fine or badly made — we’d rather be honest at the consultation than fit something that won’t last.
Yes. We remove other salons’ tape extensions from $50, and we’re happy to move them up too — if the hair’s in good condition we’ll re-tape it, and if it isn’t we’ll tell you honestly what your options are.
The free consultation and colour match takes about 20 minutes. Allow around 1 hour for an install or move-up of up to 10 pieces and up to 2.5 hours for larger sets. Removal on its own takes about 15–30 minutes, or longer with a blow wave.
Low ponytails and soft, relaxed styles are ideal. High or tight styles can expose the tapes, so if you love wearing your hair up, tell us at your consultation and we’ll plan placement with that in mind.
Yes. Tie your hair back, rinse with fresh water straight after swimming and dry the tape area thoroughly. Keep oils, silicone-heavy and alcohol-based products away from the tapes.
